Peter's passing is one more notch on our batch after Akheraj Singh and Yamin Gunja in the past year or so. Peter had become more and more of a recluse, living alone (he never married) and with all sorts of health problems. We continued our good friendship for many years after he left Campion, since I was in Bangalore. He had a chequered career - selected for the IAS, and raised a storm at the Academy when he felt there was discrimination in allotment of cadres at the end of the training, leading to his resignation; was called for a final interview by Tata Administrative Service and insisted on appearing before the brass in a casual shirt and slippers; made a name for himself as a prominent figure in the Bangalore ad world, as well as in theatre circles; and wrote the definitive biography of Bangalore, full of anecdotes about its history and its current condition. No-one can say he did not leave his mark on the people and society he lived in.

I was originally in the same class as T. Raghav Rao and Peter Colaco...Class of 1960. However, when my father was posted to the USA in 1958, my mother and I accompanied him. When I returned in early 1960, the rules did not permit my being admitted directly into my old group, by then in the 11th. So I had to drop 1 year, and became class of 61, except that, because of an inconvenient compulsory Study Class enforced by Rev. Fr. More, I had to leave Campion for Cathedral, from where I did the last ever "Senior Cambridge" in November 1961. I will need to dig through my old Annual Books to put a young face on Peter. I seem to remember him as having a slight squint, and we were in the Cubs and Boy Scouts together. May his soul rest in peace.

I have been saddened to hear about the
deaths of two of my colleagues,Shirikant
Ruparel and Peter Colaco. They were good
friends. Shirikant and I were in class
together for many years and his passing
away is a great loss. He was a good
friend and I wish we had kept abreast
with each others activities.
Peter Colaco and Raghav Rao were always
together and it was a pleasure knowing
them as Boy Scouts in our troop and
patrol. It is so heart warming to know
that the two of them were so close
through out their lives together. Raghav
I am sure you will miss your close
friend of these many years, I can see
you both together on the many scout
hikes we took together. I have always
had pleasant memories of you and Peter
and you will be always continue to be in
my thoughts. Good luck to you.

My classmate Peter Colaco, passed away on Good Friday, two days before his 68th birthday. He left Campion in the 9th Std., since his father was transferred to Bangalore. I kept in touch with him over several years, while I did my engineering in Bangalore and thereafter, and even got a mention in his chronicle of Bangalore "Bangalore, A Century of Tales From City & Cantonment." Of late, he had become a bit of a recluse and was in indifferent health. He never married.

I am sadden to learn the passing away of a very old mate of mine Shrikant Ruparel who I had not seen since I left India to immigrate to Australia in 1954, except for my brief visit to Mumbai in Feb of 2012. I was invited by another class mate of both, Shrikant & me, Russi Mistry for lunch at the Bombay Gymkhana. To see him there brought back very vivid memories of my students days at Campion. I am very fortunate to have taken a lot of video of Shrikant together with our class mates of over 50 years, namely, Sorab Javeri, Norshir Dubash, Vinod Nayer, all class mates of Shrikant, together with the OCA President Uday More. May I say without a doubt it will hold a very treasured part of my life. I thank God for bringing us all together. My deepest condolences to his family for his loss. I will always remember you Shrikant. RIP mate.

Ref - Shrikant Ruparel - Thanks very much for letting us know. We spent several years together in school and were delighted to see each other at the Willingdon a few months ago, perhaps after 50 years. He looked the same and could be easily recognized. My condolences to the family.

Thank you Uday and committee. Time has flown by. It has been 44 years since I was at Campion and I still have such fond memories especially with the Boy Scouts events and the teachers and students involved. Take care
