Introduction to Carnatic Music - A Presentation by Mala Ramadorai
MALA RAMADORAI former Campion teacher a senior vocalist trained in both Hindustani and Carnatic tradition, will present an interactive session to elucidate the distinguishing features of Carnatic music. This is one of our educational initiatives that aim to bring together eminent artistes, scholars, connoisseurs and students of music, to enable knowledge sharing and analysis of different aspects of Indian music as it is practiced today.
The two main branches of Indian classical music – Hindustani and Carnatic – are similar in their fundamental approach to melodic and rhythmic organisation (raga and tala), yet they are distinct traditions, distinguishable by their styles and forms, poetry and song repertories, intonation, ornamentation and instrumentation. The event will be held on Thu 10th June 2010 @ 06:30 PM at the Godrej Dance Academy Theatre NCPA.
